A Gruesome experience

Today I sneaked away from the refurbishing of our home office rooms and did some multi-player testing. I was curious about the Grue's AI. It worked fine the single player mode but when two players entered the same area strange things happened. One PC had a torch and the other had no light source. The Grue went totally demented and toggled between attacking the torch-less PC and fleeing from the other PC's flame. Then suddenly, it attacked them both, fled the room and returned. Sure, it's strange, but the very funniest thing was when the Grue started to attack placeable torches and wall lamps. If I only had a video capture software running :) I really laughed loud.

Okay, here's what should happen. When a PC walks into a dark area (there's lots of them in this game) without a light source with him/her the Grue shows up within a couple of rounds. If the PC equips the light source the Grue flees and vanish. It should be noted that no one ever have seen a Grue and survived to tell anybody about it. The Grue is also repelled by placeable light sources (with a certain tag) and this is what I thing messed up the play test. I'll tear the scripts apart because they seem very complicated to me and were written in a early stage of this mod. I don't believe I thought everything through then. So the next thing I'll do is try to fix this and then get back to correct a few issues from my list. I then have a quite funny thing to try to solve. I want a VFX of a singing bird, fly from the sky, land on the PC's head and lay an egg like item in the PC's hand. You think I can make it? We'll see...

Spring is here, summer is coming closer.

Hehe, too bad you didn't have any video capture software running. I would have loved to see that. ^_^

I'm tempted to ask, what are you using as a Grue. But I'm afraid that would border on Blasphemy. Sure, I've drawn my very own version of the Grue (known as "Mr. Grue". Also, have I shown you the pictures of his parents, taken in the traditional style of Grue Photography? If not, here they are again: Mr. Grue - http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/1784/gruemale7kf.jpg
and
Mrs. Grue - http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/5650/gruefemale3mo.jpg ;) )
but really how to know if other Grue's look the same?

"Nah, you don't get blind by drinking Absinth. I've tried it and my color matching eye is still perfect :) :)"

Well, the type of Absinthe that makes blind is most likely bootleg...then again, most bootleg alcohol has that possibility if not well made.

I know that most of the bad things about Absinthe that ended up with it being banned everywhere were mostly things thought up by opponents of Absinthe, but who knows? Just remember not to drink the stuff pure, okay? We want to preserve your eyesight for a while longer, after all. At least until you've completed this mod. ;)

Well, if you encounter the Gruesome Grue you're probably in the dark. And when you are in the dark it's very hard to get a look at the Grue... But I ensure you, the red eyes are the first and last thing you'll see. I don't know about the fangs though. So he/she (I don't know the sex) is pretty similar to your pictures.

You can order a cheap 700ml Absinth for only 88 Euro from the Swedish Alcohol Retail Monopoly :) I wonder what krazy person would order that one? It's certainly a good reason to paint sunflowers and cut ones ear off...

Mrs. Grue's eyes are actually a beautiful Periwinkle (the colour, not the Snail), but since Grue's shun (SHUUUUUUUN!) everything that is somehow different even more than people in the dark ages, she's wearing contacts. Also, as you can see, you can tell apart the different genders from the makeup. It's glow in the dark, so they can tell what the other is - otherwise it might get awkward, like with Dwarves of the type where both Genders happen to have beards. You see, they don't really see well in the dark, that's why their eyes have to be glowy: They're a bit like headlights for them! ^_^

Also, it's good to hear you've changed the colours in the room a bit. I am trusting you I will be able to pass through it without having the desire to claw my own eyes out, now. *ducks*

It's funny when things you aren't expecting happen during testing. Not had anything quite like that though! Shame you couldn't record it. :)

Good luck with the vfx, that sounds like a toughie.

That sounds really entertaining. You sure are putting a tremendous amount of work into this project. I'm sure Zork fans and those unfamiliar with Zork will both appreciate it.
