More bugfixing today and a completed (cross my fingers) Death & Re-spawn script. Yes you can die in this game :) But you have three chances or lives as they called them back in the great days. Quoting the original manual:
What happens when you die in ZORK I?
Then I returned to fix one of the maps that will help the players to find their way through the underground. Here's one map of the southern parts of the caves that is almost finished and inspired by the early-orginal maps.

Oh wow! Great map. Will you pop that up as a TGA in a convo?
Yes, I'll use a convo for presenting it to the PC when he/she uses the map.
That's fantastic. What a great way to display the map.
Whew! Long time no speak, eh?
You mean, I won't be required to draw the map myself any longer?
It's odd, I'm not sure if I am excited, or disappointed. I actually enjoyed drawing those maps in all the IF adventures. Sometimes they were literal "sketch maps", other times they were incredibly carfefully drawn and scribed.
On the other hand, it's easier to sketch those things from descriptions, or in engines that use offer only one point of view to the player (think classic Point and Click Adventures. I still have my maps I drew for the first "Legend of Kyrandia" game [Love that series. Malcolm Rules! XD Zanthia is great too. Brandon is nice, but not...quirky enough in his personality. Still, I enjoyed all of them a lot. ^_^ I recommend all three of them to anyone who loves a good story. Try and get your hands on them in some way, and play! This is an ORDER. ;) :P ] - this was one of the extremely well drawn ones, too.
But if the perspective isn't fixed, it gets difficult, so I think I'm actually glad I don't have to draw the map myself in the NWN 2 version.
(From some blog posts back):
"I would say that very few people reached the Barrow without help from the walk through or invisiclue book. Me myself was very young and didn't have the money to buy the clue book or call the support number in the US.
"I am relieved - I was getting afraid I might seem all-knowing of everything in Zork. *laughs* :P ;)"
Relax, NOW you know everything and that makes you a real IFN - Interactive Fiction Nerd! *big smile*"
Woohoo! I'm an IFN now! ^_^ YAY!
- :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
With death and the item scattering will the thief (if he is still wandering the underground) collect the scattered treasues that he finds?
Thanks Ernie! Yes it's a cool convo option to display pictures. I have yet to decide if I will remove the standard map and the minimap or not. I may be to hard to navigate through the winding passages without it, but it will also be more true to the original game.
@Jazhara
I wondered where you had gone. :) If you look at my post above you see I'm disputing with myself about removing the standard map completely and using this drawn map as part of the hint system or not. As you said, it's easier to draw a map in a IFA. Things are more precisely described and it's very turn based so you have lots of time to do it. I would guess the lantern will go out of power before I would manage to draw the Cellar Area :)
I found the maps I draw from Planet Fall and Enchanter when moving out of my home office. It's art! I must have put in lots of hours in them. The Enchanter map was even colored.
I never played Legend of Kyrandia but will keep an eye open for the series as it's an order :)
@Shaughn
Yes, of course! The thief will eventually pick items up if he visits a room with interesting stuff laying around. I think it's part of his nature:) I'll write comment about it in todays update.
